Former Government Minister To Advise East Capital

A former Swedish finance minister who served in the years spanning the global financial crash has taken up an advisor job at emerging and frontier markets specialist . Anders Borg will provide advisory services and insights to East Capital’s investment teams as well as support on strategic issues. He also joins the company’s advisory committee where he will take part in the work of analysing the global economic outlook, with a focus on macro-economic, political, and social trends, East Capital said in a statement yesterday. The move is a logical one for the Swede, as East Capital was founded in the country in 1997 and now has offices in Dubai, Hong Kong, Luxembourg, Moscow, Oslo, Stockholm and Tallinn. It oversees about $3.5 billion of assets. Borg served as Sweden's Minister for Finance from 2006 to 2014, winning plaudits for navigating Sweden through the global financial crisis. During his time as Minister for Finance, Borg was President of the Ecofin Council and served in the governing institutions of the IMF and the World Bank. He has also chaired the World Economic Forum’s initiative on the global financial system and has worked at Citi Group, ABN Amro Bank and SEB. Furthermore, he has served as an advisor on monetary policy to the Riksbank and has been on the board of directors in companies such as Kinnevik and Millicom. He serves on the board of directors in Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT) and Stena International. In the early 1990s, Borg was a political advisor to Prime Minister Carl Bildt. He studied political science, philosophy and economic history at Uppsala University, economics at Stockholm University and has been a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics.
